Nordic Council of Ministers for Fisheries, Aquaculture, Agriculture, Food and Forestry convened at its annual ministerial meeting in Kuopio on 11–12 June 2025. Among the topics discussed were security of supply and opportunities related to the bioeconomy, and the ministers also met young farmers. Ministers from Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark as well as the autonomous regions of Åland, the Faroe Islands and Greenland attended the meeting. Iceland was represented by the State Secretary.

The Nordic Conference on Climate Change Adaptation (NOCCA 2025) on 14–15 May 2025 brought together 160 experts to Rovaniemi to share the most recent scientific knowledge and examples related to the preparation for climate risks.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the European Commission disagree on the interpretations concerning scientific salmon fishery and the deduction in the salmon quota by the European Commission. By the transfer of quotas that has now been made, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry ensures that coastal fishers will not suffer from the unfounded deduction in Finland’s salmon quota by the European Commission.
On Monday 26 May, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah and two Members of the European Commission opened the New Wood exhibition in Brussels where Finland showcases bioeconomy solutions based on wood and the country’s strong competence and skills.
The bioeconomy offers great opportunities for ensuring the vitality of the countryside and its livelihoods and strengthening the strategic resilience of the EU. This was Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah’s key message as she spoke at the Conference on the Vision for Agriculture and Food in Brussels on 8 May.

The objective of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is to create and maintain the preconditions for sustainable and diversified use of renewable natural resources. The Ministry steers both the use of natural resources and research in the sector.
